One of the key projects during the imminent International Year of Astronomy is the Cosmic Diary. Perhaps inspired by Quantum Diaries during the World Year of Physics in 2005, Cosmic Diary plans to give an insight into the lives of over 50 astronomers, educators and students from all over the world. Not only will these appear in blog form throughout the year but extracts will be used to make both a book and a documentary during 2009. The blogs will officially begin on 1st January 2009. Wisconsin state Web site features wrong skyline December 29th, 2008 MADISON, Wis.—A new Web site for campaign finance information in Wisconsin includes the state Capitol in Madison in front of a striking skyline — of Minneapolis. State Sen. Jeff Plale noticed the geography gaffe after looking at the site created by the Government Accountability Board. “I’m looking at that thinking, ‘What the heck?’” the South Milwaukee Democrat said. “I don’t think a lot of Minnesota legislators care about

Daniel Rozin, Peg Mirror, 2007. Wood, motors, circuits, custom software, microcontroller. 42 inches in diameter; 6 inches deep. Edition of 10. (Photo by Nathaniel Stern) Daniel Rozin’s two pieces were admittedly the most surprising for those already familiar with his work. His investigation of material mirror metaphors began in 1999 with Wooden Mirror, where over 700 individual wood chips in a grid point up and down on servo motors, towards and away from lights above, in order to create a real

One worry (a minor one) is that if I loose my job in Drive Past, Wisconsin [1] I’d have to acquire a job in Green Bay (long drive) or Milwaukee, which would require me to move. I like it here. Plus I’d have to deal with rush hour again and I doubt I’ll be able to find a house two miles from my employer there. Luckily, the citizens of Milwaukee have made it likely that any businesses still in that fair city will be fleeing north [2] .. and right into my lap. The Milwaukee Paid Sick Leave Ini

For those rightfully wondering, Right Field Bleachers is in fact still an active Brewers fan site - with writers even! To prove it, here’s a post. News: - The recently re-upped Mike Cameron is drawing some interest from the Yankees: The popular speculation on a package is Melky Cabrera and Ian Kennedy. It seems like that’s something the Yankees wouldn’t want to do, and – with the return – too much of a gamble for Milwaukee, aside from obtaining two once promising players with the chance of

In the year 1901 Arthur Palm, a fourteen-year-old student from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, published an article in his school newspaper (the Excelsior) describing the world of 2001. Below is an excerpt of his article as featured in the book Yesterday’s Future: The Twentieth Century Begins (Voices of the Wisconsin Past). “How it may appear a hundred years hence, when modern inventions have been carried to their highest point of development that even Edison would feel jealous of the great inventions i

I had a great time at Vision Trekk Wisconsin this past weekend. The focus of the weekend was to learn a bit more about how to guide people through their personal results of the StrengthsFinder, Myers Briggs Type Indicator and APEST assessments, all in an effort for personal and leadership development as individuals, teams and leaders. The weekend was held at Green Lake Conference Center, about 90 miles north west of Milwaukee - GLCC has it’s own interesting story of renewal and mission. Working

Last Thursday, I took advantage of Aurora hospitals’ voter registration drive and made sure I’m properly set up for November. Unlike a bajillion idiot “undecideds,” I actually have political principles and already know who I’ll be voting for. The problem? I’m voting in Wisconsin. You out-of-towners might wonder what’s so wrong about voting in Wisconsin, particularly as it represents a minor swing state. There’s nothing wrong about voting here, and in fact we need more voters like me, because
