Happy New Year

I went out till 1:45 am. I met friends at Mo’s Irish Pub in Milwaukee on Wisconsin and Plankinton. They had an $80 all-inclusive deal with food, drink and live music. It was very nice. Fortunately I didn’t overdo it so feel good today. Yeah.

Good Morning Hoops Nation: December 31

LOGAN, Utah — It’s the final day of the year, the end of the holidays, and a bad day to buy a calendar (they’ll be 50 percent off tomorrow). Here in college basketball world, the ringing out of the old has more to do with crossing the bridge between nonconference and league play — happily so — and we made all our resolutions two months ago. Regardless, The Mid-Majority will take the day off tomorrow, primarily because history indicates that there will be nobody around to read it. Now, back

Game! Of! The! Night! 12/30/2008: Cleveland State at Wright State

Cleveland State at Wright State (Horizon League) Ervin J. Nutter Center - Dayton, OH 7:00 PM EST Teams in most conferences are just now finishing their city games, guarantees and D-II walkovers. Not the Horizon, it’s gone full-bore into league season and has pretty much completed its quest for national credentials. The results were pretty impressive: a 54-52 noncon record and just three of 10 teams under .500, with eight wins over the eight biggest conferences. On a mid-major comparison l

Evadgelization

Evadgelization Our Archdiocese of Milwaukee’s Living Our Faith evangelization initiative has published an eight page supplement to today’s Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. It describes itself as a special edition of the Milwaukee Catholic Herald. It also seems to be the December 2008 Living Our Faith newsletter. And it’s “Volume 1, Number 1″, so perhaps we’ll see in in the morning paper again. In addition to its articles, there are quite a few ads, which presumably covered at least some of the co

Jingle Bell Run for Arthritis draws 1,000

5K event included a run and fun walk. (Photos by Julie A. Jacob) By Julie A Jacob The overcast December sky and soft snowfall did not faze the thousand or so people who gathered at Racine Lutheran High School on Saturday for the 12th annual Racine Jingle Bell 5K Run/Walk for Arthritis. The walkers and runners, many dressed in festive holiday clothing including antler hats, red bows and, yes, jingle bells, participated in the race around Island Park to help raise money for the Arthritis Found

Celebrating the 21st Amendment

Lovers of liberty and lovers of libation should celebrate today, the 75th anniversary of the Twenty-first Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which repealed the Prohibition of alcoholic beverages that had been mandated by the earlier, Eighteenth Amendment. It took a little more than a decade for Americans collectively to slap their foreheads and say to themselves, “Duh! Prohibition causes more problems than it solves.”Among the problems that Prohibition caused were twin and not unrelated evils:
